Support for the Parent You Want to Be

At Fresh Breath Therapy, we know that most parents who reach out to us aren't failing - they're exhausted and want to do better. Parenting support isn't about telling you what you're doing wrong. It's a warm, non-judgmental space to understand your child's behavior, break frustrating cycles, and rediscover confidence in yourself as a parent.

Raleigh families juggle a lot - demanding careers, long commutes, school pressures, and often raising kids far from extended family. Whether you're wrangling a strong-willed toddler, trying to reconnect with a distant teenager, or rebuilding a co-parenting relationship after divorce, our licensed clinicians meet you exactly where you are.

We believe you are the expert on your own family. Our role is to walk alongside you with practical, evidence-based tools - so you can parent from a calmer, more grounded place.

What We Help With

Common Reasons Raleigh Parents Reach Out

You don't need to be in crisis to benefit from parenting support. Many parents come to us simply wanting to yell less, connect more, and feel confident in their choices.

Toddler & Young Child Behavior

Tantrums, defiance, hitting, sleep battles, and big feelings in little bodies - learn responses that de-escalate instead of escalate.

Parent-Teen Communication

Slammed doors, one-word answers, and constant arguing - rebuild trust and open real conversations with your teenager.

Parenting Burnout & Overwhelm

Running on empty, snapping more than you'd like, and losing yourself in the demands of parenting - you can't pour from an empty cup.

Co-Parenting After Divorce

Reduce conflict, keep kids out of the middle, and build communication systems that work across two households.

Blended Family Parenting

Step-parenting roles, new partner introductions, and merging different family cultures and expectations into one home.

Parenting Kids with ADHD or Anxiety

Strategies tailored to your child's wiring - structure, routines, and responses that support kids with ADHD, anxiety, or big emotions.

School Struggles & Homework Battles

Morning meltdowns, homework standoffs, and school avoidance - end the nightly power struggles without sacrificing the relationship.

Setting Healthy Boundaries

Learn to set consistent, loving limits without guilt or power struggles - and how to follow through when they're tested.

New-Parent Adjustment

The identity shifts, relationship strain, and self-doubt that come with a new baby - support for this huge life transition.

Our Therapeutic Approach

Practical Tools, Personalized to Your Family

No single approach fits every family. We draw on multiple evidence-based methods and adapt them to your child's age, your parenting style, and your real day-to-day life.

COACH

Parent Coaching & Skill Building

Concrete, actionable strategies you can use this week - from calming a meltdown to holding a limit - practiced and refined session by session.

CBT

CBT-Informed Parenting Strategies

Notice the thought patterns that fuel frustration and guilt, and replace reactive cycles with calmer, more intentional responses.

ACT

ACT for Stressed Parents

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy - a core approach on our Raleigh roster - helps you make room for hard feelings and parent from your values, not your stress.

ATT

Attachment-Based Guidance

Attachment theory - another approach our Raleigh clinician draws on - explores how connection shapes behavior, so discipline strengthens the relationship instead of straining it.

COMM

Communication Skills Training

Age-appropriate ways to talk so your child feels heard - and listen so they actually open up - at every stage from toddler to teen.

MBT

Mindfulness for Parents

Stay grounded in heated moments, notice your own triggers, and respond to your child with presence instead of autopilot.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

What's the difference between parenting support and family therapy?+

Parenting support focuses on you as the parent - your skills, stress, and strategies - and often doesn't require your child to attend at all. Family therapy typically brings multiple family members into the room to work on dynamics together. During your free consultation we'll help you figure out which fit is right for your situation.

Do I come to sessions alone, or with my child?+

Many parents attend alone - working on your own responses, boundaries, and communication often creates real change at home even when your child never sets foot in the office. Depending on your goals and your child's age, your therapist may also suggest sessions that include your child or teen.

What insurance do you accept at the Raleigh office?+

We accept most major insurance plans including Blue Cross Blue Shield, Aetna, Cigna, and United Health. Coverage varies by plan, so please call us at (919) 300-6717 to verify your specific benefits before your first appointment. Self-pay rates are also available.

Can I do parenting support sessions online?+

Yes! Our telehealth service is available to anyone in North Carolina. Sessions are conducted via a secure, HIPAA-compliant video platform - a popular option for busy parents. All you need is a private space, a smartphone or computer, and a reliable internet connection.

How many sessions will I need?+

It depends on your goals. Some parents come for a handful of focused, skills-based sessions around a specific challenge; others find ongoing support valuable through a longer season of family life. Your therapist will work with you to set a cadence that fits your goals and schedule, and adjust as you progress.

Is what I share confidential? Will it affect custody matters?+

Your privacy is strictly protected under HIPAA. What you share in session is never disclosed without your written consent, outside of the narrow safety exceptions required by law. If you use insurance, the insurer may receive a diagnosis code for billing purposes, but session content is never shared.

Be the Parent You Want to Be

You don't have to have all the answers - you just have to take the first step. Our Raleigh team is ready to support you with practical tools and real encouragement. Start with a free 15-minute consultation, no commitment required.
