Therapy That Fits the Life You're Actually Living

Most adults who come to therapy aren't in crisis. They're managing - working, parenting, showing up - while carrying anxiety, exhaustion, grief, or a pattern that keeps repeating. In a city moving as fast as Raleigh, that can go unaddressed for years.

Therapy for adults at Fresh Breath Therapy is collaborative and goal-oriented. You're not handed a protocol - your therapist works out what's actually driving the pattern with you, then builds an approach around your life, your schedule, and what you'll realistically follow through on.

You also don't need a crisis or a diagnosis to be here. Plenty of clients come because something feels off, or because the way they're coping has stopped working. That's a perfectly good reason to start.

What We Help With

What Adult Therapy Addresses in Raleigh

You don't need a diagnosis or a crisis to benefit. If something's been sitting on you, that's reason enough.

Anxiety & Panic

Constant worry, racing thoughts, physical symptoms, and panic attacks - plus the avoidance that quietly shrinks your life around them.

Depression & Low Mood

Heaviness, numbness, lost motivation, and the exhaustion of getting through days that used to be manageable.

Work Stress & Burnout

Depletion that a weekend doesn't fix - and the boundaries, expectations, and recovery routines that actually rebuild capacity.

Life Transitions

New job, new city, new baby, divorce, empty nest, retirement - the changes that reorganize your identity as much as your calendar.

Grief & Loss

Bereavement, non-death losses, and grief that has become stuck - supported without a timeline imposed on you.

Trauma & PTSD

Flashbacks, hypervigilance, and the long shadow of childhood or adult trauma - approached gently, at a pace you set.

Relationship Patterns

Recurring conflict, people-pleasing, difficulty trusting, and the patterns that show up in relationship after relationship.

Self-Worth & the Inner Critic

Never feeling good enough, imposter feelings, and a voice in your head you'd never use on anyone else.

Career Pressure & Identity

High-stakes roles, public-sector scrutiny, and job changes that shake how you see yourself - not just what's on your calendar.

Our Therapeutic Approach

Evidence-Based Approaches, Matched to You

There's no single right approach. Your therapist draws on several proven methods and adapts to what fits your goals, personality, and pace.

CBT

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

Identify the thought patterns driving anxiety, low mood, and self-criticism - then test them against evidence instead of accepting them as fact.

ACT

Acceptance & Commitment Therapy

Stop waiting to feel differently before you live differently. ACT clarifies what matters to you and helps you move toward it, difficult feelings included.

DBT

DBT Skills

Practical skills for emotions that arrive at full volume - distress tolerance, regulation, and staying grounded when everything feels like too much.

TIC

Trauma-Informed Care

Safety, choice, and pacing built into every session. If trauma is part of your history, you'll never be pushed to go deeper than you're ready for.

MBT

Mindfulness & Somatic Work

Anxiety and stress live in the body. Body-based and mindfulness tools calm the nervous system rather than only reasoning with it.

EMDR

EMDR Available In-Practice

Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing is available through our practice, including via telehealth - ask us if EMDR might be a fit for your goals.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

What happens in the first session?+

Mostly conversation. Your therapist will ask about what brought you in, your history, and what you'd like to be different - and you'll get a feel for whether the fit is right. There's no expectation that you arrive with everything figured out or share more than you're comfortable with.

How many sessions will I need?+

It depends on what you're working on. Focused concerns like anxiety, a transition, or a specific stressor often improve meaningfully in 8 to 16 sessions. Trauma, long-standing depression, and deeply rooted patterns take longer. Your therapist will give you an honest read after the initial assessment rather than an open-ended commitment.

Do I need a diagnosis to start therapy?+

No. Plenty of clients come because something feels off, because they're stuck, or because the way they've been coping has stopped working. You don't need to be in crisis, and you don't need a label to deserve support.

Do you prescribe medication?+

No - we're a therapy practice, not a psychiatric one. We work alongside prescribers when medication is part of your care and can provide referrals if you'd like to explore that option.

Is telehealth as effective as in-person?+

Research consistently finds outcomes comparable to in-person care for anxiety, depression, and trauma. Many clients mix the two - in-person when they can, video during a busy week - and you're welcome to do the same.

Do you serve Wake Forest, Garner, and Clayton?+

Yes. Our Raleigh office on Professional Ct serves clients from across the area, including Garner, Knightdale, Clayton, Wake Forest, and Cary. Telehealth is also available statewide.

You Don't Have to Keep Managing Alone

Whatever you've been carrying, it's worth putting down for an hour a week with someone trained to help. Start with a free 15-minute consultation, no commitment required.
