Therapy Built for Teenagers - Not Scaled-Down Adult Therapy
Today's teenagers are managing a genuinely more complicated world than their parents grew up in: academic pressure, social media, shifting identity, and real anxiety about the future. "It'll get better" isn't support.
Teen therapy at Fresh Breath Therapy is a confidential space built for adolescents - somewhere they can talk without judgment, without managing their parents' feelings, and without performing for anyone. Our clinicians know how to actually connect with young people rather than talk at them.
Parents matter here too. We keep you informed and supported, and we're straight with everyone about what stays private and what doesn't - including the safety situations where we'd always involve you. That clarity is what lets a teenager relax enough to do real work.

What Teen Therapy Addresses in Greensboro
You don't have to wait for a crisis. If something's clearly off, that's reason enough to get a professional set of eyes on it.
Anxiety & Panic
Constant worry, physical symptoms, avoidance of school or social situations, and panic that arrives out of nowhere.
Depression & Low Mood
Withdrawal, irritability, exhaustion, loss of interest in things they used to love - and hopelessness that needs to be taken seriously.
School Stress & Perfectionism
Test anxiety, impossible standards, fear of disappointing everyone, and the exhaustion of an overloaded schedule.
Social Struggles & Peer Pressure
Friendship breakdowns, feeling like an outsider, comparison on social media, and the pressure to be someone else to fit in.
Bullying & Cyberbullying
Support for what happened, how to respond, and how to rebuild confidence when it follows them home through their phone.
Identity & Self-Esteem
The core work of adolescence - figuring out who they are, including LGBTQ+ identity, in an affirming space where they don't have to explain themselves.
Family Conflict & Divorce
Constant arguments at home, separation and custody changes, and the loyalty binds that put teens in the middle.
Anger & Emotional Dysregulation
Reactions that go from zero to sixty, slammed doors, and the guilt that shows up afterwards - plus the skills that shorten the fuse.
Body Image & Disordered Eating
Food rules, over-exercise, body comparison, and restriction - addressed by clinicians with direct eating disorder experience, alongside your teen's medical team where needed.
Evidence-Based, Developmentally Appropriate Care
Teens need approaches designed for adolescent brains and lives. We draw on proven methods and adapt them to your teen's personality, not a manual.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy
Teens learn to catch the thoughts feeding the anxiety or low mood - "everyone's judging me," "I'll never be good enough" - and test them instead of believing them automatically.
DBT Skills for Big Emotions
Concrete skills for emotions that arrive at full volume: riding out distress without self-harm, calming a spiralling body, and repairing after a blow-up.
Acceptance & Commitment Therapy
Help teens act on what matters to them even when anxiety is loud - values, not avoidance, driving their choices.
Trauma-Informed Care
Safety, choice, and pacing built into every session. Teens who've been through something hard are never pushed to talk before they're ready.
Mindfulness & Body-Based Skills
Practical grounding tools for panic, anger, and overwhelm - things that work in a bathroom stall at school, not just in a therapy office.
Family Involvement, Done Right
Parents get guidance and updates on progress without their teen losing the privacy that makes therapy work. We'll be clear with everyone about how that line works.

Frequently Asked Questions
What ages do you see for teen therapy?+
Our teen therapy is for ages 12 to 17. For younger children we offer child therapy, and for 18+ we'd see them in adult therapy - just tell us their age when you call and we'll point you to the right fit.
Will I know what my teen talks about?+
You'll get meaningful updates on progress, themes, and how to support them at home - but not a transcript. Teens need genuine privacy to be honest, and that privacy is what makes therapy work. Safety is the exception: if there's risk of harm to your teen or someone else, we involve you immediately, and we say that clearly to your teen from session one.
My teen says they don't want therapy. What now?+
That's extremely common and not a dealbreaker. Many teens arrive arms-crossed and thaw once they realize the therapist isn't there to report on them or fix them. We'd suggest framing it as a few sessions to try, with their input on whether it's a fit - and we can talk with you first about how to raise it.
Do I attend sessions with my teen?+
Usually not the whole session. We start with a parent consultation, then your teen has their own individual sessions, with periodic parent check-ins and family sessions when they'd help. The mix depends on your teen's age and what you're working on.
How long does teen therapy take?+
Many teens show real change within 12 to 20 sessions, and small shifts - sleeping better, fewer blow-ups - often come sooner. Trauma, long-standing depression, or ongoing family conflict take longer. Your therapist will give you an honest read after the initial assessment.
Do you serve High Point, Burlington, and Kernersville?+
Yes. Our Greensboro office on Greenvalley Rd serves families from across the Triad, including High Point, Burlington, Kernersville, and Guilford County. Telehealth is also available anywhere in North Carolina.
